Finality

In shortThe point after which a transaction can no longer be reversed.

On Bitcoin, finality is probabilistic: each new block makes reversal less likely, and exchanges typically wait for a few confirmations. Many proof-of-stake chains reach finality in seconds or minutes.

Exchanges credit deposits only after finality, which explains why some deposits take longer than others.
