Zero-knowledge proof (ZK)

Also called: ZK · ZKP · zk-SNARK

In shortA cryptographic proof that something is true without revealing the underlying data.

ZK proofs let a rollup prove that thousands of transactions were processed correctly, and let privacy coins such as Zcash prove a payment is valid without showing who paid whom.

They are expensive to compute but cheap to verify, which makes them a key tool for scaling blockchains.
