Pudgy Penguins review

Reviewed

Overview

Pudgy Penguins started in 2021 as a collection of 8,888 penguin NFTs on Ethereum. After a rocky start, Luca Netz bought the project in 2022 and turned it into a consumer brand: Pudgy Toys are sold in Walmart, Target and other stores, and Pudgy content draws billions of views online.

In December 2024, the company launched the PENGU token on Solana with a large airdrop to NFT holders and crypto communities.

How it works

  • PENGU is a community and meme token for the Pudgy brand. It is used in games and community activities.
  • The team built Abstract, an Ethereum Layer 2 for consumer apps, through its company Igloo.
  • Pudgy World, a free browser game, launched on Abstract in March 2026. Its mobile game Pudgy Party was reportedly shut down in June 2026 to focus on Pudgy World.

The company reportedly targets around $50 million in revenue and a public listing by 2027. A US spot PENGU ETF has been filed, but regulators have delayed a decision.

The PENGU token

PENGU at a glance
Maximum supply about 88.9 billion PENGU
In circulation (Oct 2026) about 62.9 billion
Price (29 Oct 2026) about $0.0079
All-time high about $0.068 (December 2024)
Market cap about $495 million (#109)

Risks

  • No revenue link. Toy and licensing revenue goes to the company, not to PENGU holders.
  • Supply. About 30% of PENGU is still to be released.
  • Meme-driven. Price depends on attention and the broader meme-coin market.
  • Execution. Games and products can fail or be shut down.

Our verdict

Pudgy Penguins is one of crypto’s strongest consumer brands, and PENGU is a playful way to back it. But the token has no claim on the business, and its price has fallen about 88% from its peak. PENGU is a very high-risk investment: invest only what you can afford to lose.
