Ondo Finance review

Overview

Ondo Finance brings traditional financial assets onto blockchains: US government bonds (Treasuries), money-market funds and, since 2025, US stocks and ETFs. It was founded in 2021 by Nathan Allman, a former Goldman Sachs digital-assets executive, and is backed by investors such as Founders Fund and Pantera.

The idea is simple: instead of needing a US brokerage account, users can hold tokens that track real assets, use them in DeFi and trade them around the clock. This is called tokenization, and Ondo has become one of its biggest names.

Ondo’s products

  • USDY: a token backed by short-term US Treasuries and bank deposits that pays interest, like a yield-bearing dollar. It is for non-US users.
  • OUSG: tokenized exposure to US Treasury funds (including BlackRock’s BUIDL), for qualified investors.
  • Ondo Stocks (called Ondo Global Markets until July 2026): tokenized versions of more than a hundred US stocks and ETFs, such as Apple or Tesla, backed one-to-one by the real shares. They trade on Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain and other networks, and through wallets and exchanges worldwide.

In total, Ondo managed more than $4 billion across its products in October 2026, with about $1.3 billion in tokenized stocks.

Regulation

Ondo works closely within US rules. In 2025 it bought Oasis Pro, a US broker-dealer registered with the SEC, allowing it to offer regulated tokenized securities. Its stocks are mainly offered to users outside the US, and some products are open only to qualified investors.

The ONDO token

ONDO at a glance
Maximum supply 10 billion ONDO
In circulation (Oct 2026) about 4.9 billion
Price (21 Oct 2026) about $0.45
All-time high about $2.14 (December 2024)
Market cap about $2.2 billion (#50)

This is the most important point for investors: ONDO is a governance token. It lets holders vote on the Ondo DAO and is used in the Ondo ecosystem, but it gives no claim on the billions of dollars in assets or on Ondo’s fees. Ondo’s business can grow while the token lags.

Over half the supply is still locked and is released in large yearly unlocks each January until 2029, which regularly adds selling pressure.

Security and reliability

Ondo has not suffered a major hack. The main risks are:

  • Competition. Tokenized stocks are booming, and rivals such as Robinhood, Kraken’s xStocks and others are growing faster. Ondo’s share of tokenized stocks fell from about 56% in January 2026 to about 26% by October, even as its own totals grew.
  • Counterparty risk. Tokens depend on Ondo and its partners actually holding the underlying assets.
  • Regulatory change. Rules for tokenized securities are still being written in the US and elsewhere.

Ondo vs. the competition

Ondo Securitize Robinhood (tokenized stocks)
Main products Treasuries, stocks, ETFs Tokenized funds (e.g. BlackRock BUIDL) Stock tokens on Robinhood Chain
Open to crypto users globally Yes (outside the US) Mostly institutions Robinhood users in some regions
Own token ONDO (governance) No No

Our verdict

Ondo is a leader in one of crypto’s most promising trends: bringing real-world assets on-chain. Its products are real, regulated and growing, and Wall Street is moving in the same direction.

But the ONDO token doesn’t share in that success directly, competition is eating into its market share, and unlocks continue for years. ONDO is a high-risk bet on Ondo staying a tokenization leader and on the token gaining more value from its ecosystem. Invest only what you can afford to lose.
