Oasis review

Reviewed

Overview

Oasis is a Layer 1 blockchain focused on privacy and confidential computing. It was founded by Dawn Song, a computer science professor at UC Berkeley known for her security research, and launched its main network in November 2020.

Oasis’s pitch: most blockchains make all data public, which is a problem for businesses, personal data and AI. Oasis lets smart contracts keep data secret while still running on a blockchain.

How it works

Oasis separates its system into a base layer for consensus and several ParaTimes (parallel runtimes):

  • Sapphire, a confidential EVM: developers write normal Ethereum-style contracts, but their data and inputs are encrypted. It uses trusted execution environments (TEEs), secure areas inside computer chips.
  • ROFL (Runtime Off-chain Logic), which lets heavy computing such as AI models run off the blockchain while producing results that can be verified on-chain.

The ROSE token

ROSE at a glance
Maximum supply 10 billion ROSE
In circulation (Oct 2026) about 8.1 billion
Price (29 Oct 2026) about $0.0068
All-time high about $0.60 (January 2022)
Market cap about $55 million

ROSE pays transaction fees, is staked to secure the network and is used in governance.

Risks

  • Low usage. DeFi activity on Sapphire is close to zero, according to DeFiLlama.
  • Hardware trust. TEEs have had security flaws in the past; privacy depends on the chip makers’ security.
  • Competition. Privacy and AI computing are crowded fields (Secret Network, COTI, Aztec, EigenCloud and others).
  • Small size. ROSE’s low market value makes it volatile.

Oasis vs. the competition

Oasis COTI Zcash
Privacy approach Trusted hardware (TEEs) Garbled circuits Zero-knowledge proofs
Smart contracts Yes (confidential EVM) Yes (on Ethereum) No
Focus Private apps, AI computing Private apps Private payments

Our verdict

Oasis has strong research roots and a real technical offering for private smart contracts and verifiable AI. But adoption remains very low, and ROSE has lost about 99% of its value. ROSE is a very high-risk investment: invest only what you can afford to lose.
