Overview
Chiliz is a blockchain company focused on sports and entertainment, founded in 2018 by Alexandre Dreyfus. Its best-known product is Socios.com, an app where fans buy fan tokens for their favorite clubs.
Chiliz has signed deals with many of the world’s biggest football clubs, including FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan and Manchester City, as well as teams in other sports.
How it works
- Fan tokens let holders vote in club polls (for example, choosing a goal celebration song or a jersey design), take part in quizzes and win rewards such as signed merchandise or VIP experiences.
- CHZ is used to buy fan tokens on Socios.com and to pay fees on Chiliz Chain, the company’s own blockchain, which launched in 2023.
- Validators stake CHZ to secure Chiliz Chain.
Vision 2030
In February 2026, Chiliz presented its Vision 2030 plan:
- 10% of fan-token proceeds go to buying back and burning CHZ;
- fan tokens can be bridged to other blockchains;
- national-team fan tokens around the 2026 World Cup;
- a return to the US market, where Socios had been limited, with the World Cup as its showcase.
Chiliz also experimented with Fan Token Play, where token supply reacts to match results.

CHZ rose in spring 2026 on World Cup excitement, then fell sharply again. Like fan tokens themselves, CHZ tends to move with sports events and hype.
Risks
- Event-driven demand. Interest spikes around big tournaments and fades afterwards.
- Limited rights. Fan tokens give polls and perks, not ownership or profits.
- Regulation. Some countries treat fan tokens with caution; rules vary.
- Club deals. If major clubs leave, demand could fall.

Our verdict
Chiliz has built a real product with real partners: millions of fans and dozens of top clubs use fan tokens. Vision 2030’s buybacks and the US return are sensible steps.
But demand is driven by events, fan tokens give limited rights, and CHZ has lost about 99% of its value since 2021. CHZ is a high-risk bet on sports fan engagement on the blockchain. Invest only what you can afford to lose.
