Overview
Bitcoin SV (“Satoshi Vision”) was created in November 2018 when Bitcoin Cash split in a bitter “hash war”. The BSV side was led by Craig Wright, who claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, and backed by entrepreneur Calvin Ayre. BSV supporters say it follows Bitcoin’s original design, with unlimited block sizes.
How it works
- Like Bitcoin, BSV uses proof of work and has a 21 million coin limit.
- It removed block-size limits, allowing very large blocks and very low fees.
- The BSV Association develops Teranode, node software designed for massive transaction volumes.
Craig Wright and the courts
In March 2024, the UK High Court ruled, in a case brought by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance, that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto and that he had forged documents to support his claim. In December 2024, he received a suspended prison sentence for contempt of court.
Wright’s legal threats against critics led Binance and Kraken to delist BSV in 2019. Coinbase and Robinhood later dropped it too.
The BSV token
| BSV at a glance | |

Risks
- Security. In August 2021, BSV suffered several 51% attacks, in which attackers rewrote parts of the chain.
- Reputation. The court ruling against Wright damaged BSV’s founding story.
- Access. Many major exchanges no longer list BSV.
- Usage. Real-world use is small.

Our verdict
Bitcoin SV pursues an extreme big-block vision, but its credibility has been badly damaged by the court ruling against its most prominent backer, delistings and past attacks. BSV is a very high-risk investment: invest only what you can afford to lose.
