Overview
Solflare is one of the oldest Solana wallets, launched in 2020. While Phantom expanded to many chains, Solflare stayed focused on Solana, with particular strength in staking and hardware wallet support. It is self-custody and free.
How it works
You create a wallet with a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase, or connect a Ledger or Keystone device. The app is available on iOS, Android, as a browser extension and as a web wallet.
Features
- Stake SOL with any validator, or use liquid staking — with clear reward tracking.
- Swap tokens with best-price routing.
- Manage NFTs, including compressed NFTs.
- Card and bank purchases through partners.
- Transaction simulation and warnings about malicious sites and tokens.
Security
Solflare has no history of a major wallet hack. Its support for hardware wallets on mobile is among the best on Solana. Parts of the code are open source.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Excellent SOL staking experience.
- Strong hardware wallet support.
- Focused, reliable Solana wallet.
Cons
- Solana only.
- Swap fees on top of network fees.
- Smaller user base than Phantom.
Who it’s for
Solflare is a strong choice for Solana holders who stake, and for anyone who wants to use a hardware wallet with Solana apps.
Verdict
Solflare is the focused Solana alternative to Phantom. If staking and hardware wallet security matter more to you than multichain features, it is an excellent pick.
